The Annual Rite of Spring

Now, those of you who live up in my neck of the woods are probably feeling like spring has missed us this year.  We've had a few really nice days.  A few.  But most of the days around here since March 20th (you know, the first official day of spring) have not been very spring-like.  Well, on Saturday, my favorite race will be taking place and it's billed as the "annual rite of spring" so I'm hoping that maybe after this race takes place, spring will find its way to us.  Is that too much to ask?

Many of you have probably heard me talking about this race before.  It's the first race I ever ran.  It's the race that I showed up to but I had never actually run the race distance before and I thought I could never, ever do it.  It's the race where I said to Gary, "I will never run anything longer than a 5K.  THIS is my marathon."

(This is clearly a sign that you can never trust anything I say.)

So I will run this Get in Gear half marathon with pride and a bit of emotion because it holds a special place in my heart.  And I will make sure to save up some energy for the end when I have to run across that Ford Parkway Bridge because that darn thing KILLS me every year!

Hopefully they'll have another one of these at the finish line.  Oliver was lucky enough to get the very first piece cut off this bar today when we were there for packet pick-up!
