Well, well, well... It seems as though this is turning into a once-a-month blog. It's not that I don't think about writing, I just think that all I would write is the same thing that I've already written lots of other times. Topics like this:
I'm trying to run, but it's so hard.
I'm frustrated.
I wish I was a better runner.
Why can't I just be faster?
I am just not a natural runner.
So anyway, rather than focus on how running is hard for me (and always will be) I will instead discuss something else. I just read a book called Born to Run by Christopher McDougall. The book took a while to suck me in, but once I got into it, I really liked it. I highly recommend it for anyone is is trying to be a runner. It's hard to even describe what the book is about. But I'll tell you this, there is a secret tribe of absolutely fabulous runners who live in some hidden caves in Mexico. The book is about them and a guy who seems to be a bit crazy. But then again, stupendously fast ultramarathon runners probably have to be a little bit crazy in order to become ultramarathon runners, right?
So when I'm not reading about trying to become a runner like the Tarahumara tribe, I'm trying to just keep everything sorted out so I can get my 4 training runs and my one crossing training day in every week. It's a challenge, definitely. Early morning runs are not my favorite, but sometimes that's the only way to get them in.
There are a few races coming up... The one that's near and dear to my heart, Get in Gear, is next weekend. And then mid-May is the TC 1 Mile. I was so proud of myself a few years ago when I ran something like 7:46, and last year was a huge letdown when I was 8+ minutes. We'll see what this year is. I don't think it will be "speedy" fast unless I can figure out a way to get some speed training in. And if you know me, you know that I am not very good at pushing myself to do something that's difficult...
So anyway, until next month... Keep running!
